The lists have been withdrawn from JAMB website for candidates’ view.

You are to conduct the admission screening process and comply with the benchmark as well as distribution criterion set according to the Federal Government directives.

What You Should Know About JAMB’s Withdrawal of Admission Consideration List For 2016

http://www.giststudents.com/2016/08/what-you-should-know-about-jambs.html

Going by the reactions of candidates over the withdrawal of the list of candidates sent to tertiary institutions for admission consideration by JAMB, it is important we clarify a few things to avoid confusion and ensure candidates are properly guided.

So here are important things you should know and keep in mind concerning this new development;

1. The University senate now has autonomy to select candidates for admission. However the list of selected candidates must pass through JAMB for approval and issuance of admission letters.

2. Whether or not you were posted to a school or not for admission consideration earlier no longer matters. As the posting is no longer valid. All you need to do now is wait for your school of choice to announce its screening exercise and ensure you participate accordingly.

3. For Tertiary institutions that have already conducted their admission screening exercise in line with JAMB stipulations, such screening still remains valid. Candidates that participated in such screening should wait for the release of the admission list(s) by their respective institutions.

4. The withdrawal of the JAMB Consideration List does not mean that post-UTME is now valid. The ban on Post-UTME remains valid. Tertiary institutions must abide to the screening modalities as earlier announced by JAMB.

5. Candidates should note that the offer of provisional admission by their schools of choice is subject to validation by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

JAMB Withdraws 2016 Recommended Admission Lists Sent to Varsities

http://www.giststudents.com/2016/08/jamb-withdraws-2016-recommended.html

Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB has withdrawn the list of recommended candidates for admission earlier sent to the tertiary institutions.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has withdrawn the list of recommended candidates for admission earlier sent to the tertiary institutions, this was contained in a statement from JAMB through Fabian Benjamin, the organisation’s head of media.
The announcement was contained in a statement by the spokesperson for JAMB, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, on Sunday in Abuja.

The examination body said this was to ensure that the university senate performs it's statutory responsibility of conducting the selection of candidates and refer it to JAMB for confirmation in  line with the admission criteria of merit, catchment and educationally disadvantaged states as directed by the Minister of Education, Alhaji Adamu Adamu, at the policy committee meeting.
JAMB in a statement on Sunday said the earlier list was sent to help fast track the process of admission so as to allow other tiers of institutions also conduct their admission.
The statement, signed by Dr. Fabian Benjamin, added:
“Candidates should not panic because this is part of the process of the 2016 admission exercise. JAMB regrets any inconvenience this decision would have caused the tertiary institutions The Board regrets any inconvenience it’s proactive step would have caused the tertiary institutions.”
“This is to ensure that the University Senate perform its statutory responsibility of conducting the selection of candidates and refer it to JAMB for confirmation in line with the admission criteria of merit, catchment and educationally disadvantaged states as directed by the Hon Minister of Education at the policy committee meeting.
“The earlier list was sent to help fast track the process of admission so as to allow other tiers of institutions also conduct their admission.”

Read: Exam Body Should Be De-centralized Says ASUU Leader

"The Chairman, Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Ibadan (UI) chapter, Dr. Deji Omole has expressed his opinion that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) should be decentralised.

Omole said the body is unable to conduct credible and dependable examination upon which credible universities can rely.

Omole also added that a research conducted at the university to ascertain students performance in relation to JAMB scores indicated that "higher JAMB scores has negative relationship with the performances of students at 100 level examinations."

According to Omole, JAMB has outlived its usefulness and credibility. He said that during the last examinations, there were candidates who did not finish their papers or had issues with their Computer Based Test. These candidates were awarded extra 40 marks arbitrarily without justification.

Omole alleged that the study conducted across faculties at the University of Ibadan has shown that JAMB has either a negative or weak correlation with performance at university level.

He said this indicates that "the higher the scores at UME, the lower is the performance at 100 level as shown by the Cumulative Grade Point Averages (CGPA) at university degree examination.

"The results of the research however established that the performance at SSCE or NECO is statistically significantly correlated with CGPA. This shows that the performance at SSCE may be a good determinant of student's academic ability to cope with university education because of their high performance at 100 level.

"How are we to admit based on a Board that awards arbitrary marks to students? As it stands, University of Ibadan can only admit 10 percent of those who apply to it." "

Is Departmental Cut-off Marks A Factor In Admission Posting For 2016? See

As JAMB has commenced the posting of candidates to schools (which can be termed provisional admissions), any curious mind will not help but wonder the criteria used for these postings.

Yes! It’s obvious that the schools you selected as your choices during JAMB registration is part of the criteria. However, in previous years, there’s what is called departmental cut-off marks for schools.

Each school has its own cut-off mark for a particular course or department depending on the competitiveness of such course/department. For instance, you can’t expect the cut off mark for Microbiology to be the same with that of Medicine and Surgery in a school like UNIBEN or expect a course like Petroleum Engineering to be 180 ordinarily.

The question now is, does JAMB put this factor into consideration in posting candidates to the different schools?

If yes is the answer, it means each of the tertiary institutions has to send departmental cut-off marks to JAMB which JAMB is to use to determine the candidates that qualify for a particular course in a given institution.

If that is the case, there’s tendency that JAMB will not post candidates who do not meet the required cut-off marks to study their selected courses in their choice institutions but rather may push them to other related courses/departments that can accommodate their scores in such institution.

Another questions is, what happens if there are no other related courses/departments in such institution that can accommodate such candidate? I think your guess is as good as mine.

This may also be the reason why many candidates are yet to see their admission postings since it will apparently take additional time to plan the redistribution of candidates, who do not meet the departmental cut-off marks to study their choice courses to other related courses/departments.

I was just thinking this aloud and decided to put it in writing to know your views. So, what do you think?

Ministry Of Education - Only JAMB Has The Right To Admit Candidates

The Federal Ministry of Education has reiterated that the admission of candidates into tertiary institutions in the country remains the responsibility of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
The Ministry equally disclosed that institutions have power only to screen candidates sent to it by JAMB in order to fish out those with anti-social traits and suspicious credentials and that no university is allowed to have anything to do with any applicant who is not its student.
According to the Ministry's Director, Press and Public Relations, Mr. Ben Bem Goong, the cancellation of post-UTME remains and screening for those admitted by JAMB is limited to only the examination of credentials and physical examination of candidates to ensure they are not cultists and this should be done upon resumption.
