Must Read : JAMB CBT: Calling a Spade a Spade!

Calling a Spade a Spade!

I saw this and decided to share… please drop a

comment after reading.

There has been a great deal of complaints about

the 2016 CBT. The complaints being that quite a

few students did not pass the exams as

expected.

We live in a country where, unfortunately,

students and their parents alike want the easy

way out of everything:

a) They would prefer handouts to copying notes.

b) They would prefer reading short notes to

reading the full novel for an exam.

c) They would prefer to hire mercenaries to pass

their exams.

d) They would much rather have someone do

term papers and group assignments.

In trying to find the reason for the outcry on the

past 2016 JAMB CBT two main reasons are

deducible.

The first reason I deduce based on the

complaints is that instructions, for the most part,

were not followed. As with most exams, there

are instructions and we need to adhere to them

throughout the exam.

The advantage of the computer test is that with

the computer what you input is what you get.

In other words, the test will not act contrary to

what you ask it to do. Going further in these

tests I really advise we stick to the rules.

Secondly, and the saddest of all reasons is that

we are upset that we cannot "fix" the tests.

There have been quite a few owners of CBT

centres and parents complaining bitterly. The

truth is our children MUST read to pass. Why

would JAMB be blamed? The syllabus is there;

past questions are there; your children's schools

or lessons are there so where is JAMB in all

this.

The suspicion is that many of us did not know

that: no student had the same sequence of

questions. What candidate 100 had as his/her

number 2 question could be candidate 090's

number 50 question. Light bulb moment… If you

(hypothetically) decided to stand at candidate

001's computer and start calling out the

answers, there will be a total failure in the

centre.

We write tests for foreign schools and accept

whatever result comes but here it is a different

ball game. It is not a question of the marker

drinking or falling asleep while marking your

papers. The computer marks your test and gives

the score of what you filled. We CANNOT

manipulate in any way!

The JAMB CBT is a step in the right direction.

We need to give our support to this great

innovation that is putting us into the present

age.

A Lovely Story To Help Educate Our Mind: the faithful dog Hatchi.

A couple had been married for several years

without a child. For the purpose of

companionship, they bought a Rottweiler puppy,

named it Hatchi and loved her like a child. The

dog had access to all the rooms in the house.

The puppy grew to become a large, beautiful dog

and had on several occasions saved d couples

from robbery. Hatchi was always faithful, loyal

and defended its owners against any danger.

Seven years later, the couple was blessed to

have the long-

awaited son. They were very happy with their

new son and decreased the

attention they had been giving the dog. Hatchi

felt neglected and began to get jealous

of the baby.

One day the couple left the baby sleeping

peacefully in his cradle and went to

the terrace to prepare a roast. They were

shocked as they were heading

to the nursery and saw Hatchi in the hallway

with a bloody mouth, wagging its tail. The dog's

owner thought the worst, pulled out a weapon

and immediately killed the dog. Rushed to the

baby's room and found a beheaded snake close

to the baby. The owner begins to mourn and

exclaims I killed my faithful dog!

How often have we misjudged people without

finding out facts.

The next time we are tempered to judge and

condemn anyone remember the

story of a faithful dog Hatchi.

Quote Of The Day

The function of education is to teach one to

think intensively and to think critically.

Intelligence plus character - that is the goal

of true education.

See The Alleged Reason Many JAMB Candidates Failed 2016 UTME

The president of Association of Tutorial School

Operators, Mr Shodunke Oludotun has stated that

the reason many candidates failed the 2016

Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination

(UTME) was due to the fact that the Joint

Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) used

the wrong software to mark the exam.

According to him, JAMB used the software for

2015 exam to grade the students in 2016.

Mr Shodunke who equally called for the

resignation of the JAMB Boss, Professor Dibu

Ojerinde stated that there is evidence that

virtually all the results of candidates they have

collected bear 2015/2016 and not 2016/2017

which it was suppose to be.

He stressed that from their findings, it was

revealed that the software of 2015/2016

interfered with the 2016/2017, which led to the

massive failure of the students.

He said they were not against the use of the

Computer Based Test (CBT) but said it was full

of irregularities which led to the mass failure of

candidates.

what did you guys have to say about this ?

Religious Injusice in RSUST by Obidara Tayyib Olumide

ALL PRAISES AND ADORATONS ARE DUE TO

ALLAH, THE LORD OF THE WORLD, The Muslim

Students of Rivers State University of Sci & Tech,

Port Harcourt are facing lots of challenges in the

school, problems ranging from Demolition of the

only makeshift mosque on campus, threatening

and harassing of

Muslim students by the lecturers, fixing lectures

during Jumaat time, Examination on Eid day

( Muslim festival day).

There is no freedom of worship as a Muslim in

the school, whereas there are more than 28

fellowships on campus with over 4 gargantuan

building for their worship. This is a sideline as

the Muslims constitute all the departments in the

school even in the faculty of law.

The struggles for the acquisition of land for

worship started back in the late 19's and early

20's, since then there have not been favorable

response from the school

management. The chief Imam of the University,

Imam Oloyede Muhyideen & Our Staff Adviser

Engr B.I Bakare have tried their capable best for

us to secure a place of worship but all have

been fruitless.

Different letters were written to state governor,

the NUC (National Universities Commission),

NSCIA (Nigeria supreme council for Islamic

Affairs), but all ended like a blowing wind.

After a period of time, a space (no structure)

was adopted by the Muslim community after

which they erected a canopy, by this medium,

Muslims on campus converge in their large

numbers to observe their prayers, until a day

which cannot be forgotten in the history of the

Muslim students in the school which was the

demolishing of the makeshift mosque on 25th

Jan 2012.

Islamic materials and personal belongings were

rubbished

to the extent that 2 of the Muslim students were

locked up during the scenario by the school

securities. This prompted the Muslim community

to take the matter to the public, press

conference were made and ended up in the

federal high court

in Port Harcourt with a suit no FHC/PHC/

CS150/2012 after which victory was ascertain by

the Muslim.

The court gave its order on Feb 19th, 2013.

Ordering the School to allocate a piece of land

to the Muslims. Despite the court injunction, the

matter still continues as an appeal was sought

by the University management which took us

back to the Federal court of Appeal, Port

Harcourt.

The matter has since then been adjourned and

later now till next year. From May 2014, then to

March, May & to October 2015,and then to March

15, 2016 and from March to Jan 17, 2017. The

Muslim students are very law abiding as we do

not protest or destroy belongings but we have

been discussing with all agents to ensure that

the land is acquired. We are imploring on all

persons who have one way or the other to assist

in the issue to put forward their assistance. We

pray Almighty Allah guide everyone of us and

admit us in AlJanat

Firdaws.( Amen )

List of Universities that Accept Combination of O’Level Results

I learnt that so many prospective applicants do

not have all the credits they need in one sitting

in either WAEC, NECo, NABTEB, GCE. As a result

of this, many of them may need to combine two

Unfortunately, not all universities in Nigeria

purportedly added to candidates' scores

especially those that wrote on the 27th and 29th

of February has been withdrawn as the board

has revealed that it was actually a technical bug.

Candidates are therefore advised to re-check

their scores as to be sure of the right step to

take.

For instance, if you are one of those who initially

received the 40 marks, now that it has been

deducted, your score may likely fall below the

cut off mark of your choice institution or course

which implies that you may need to go for a

JAMB Change of Course and Institution.

It is obvious that some candidates must have

exceeded the number of times that they are

suppose to check for their results free on JAMB

portal. For such candidates your only option now

is to get your JAMB Original Result Slip (the one

that has your passport photograph on it).

As a matter of fact, every candidate is advised

to get his or her JAMB Original Result Slip as

this will be needed during admission processing.

Candidates That Had System Failure And Those That Missed The Exam Will Retake It - JAMB

The Registrar Joint Admissions and Matriculation

Board (JAMB), Prof. Dibu Ojerinde has stated

that candidates who missed their examination

because they were relocated will be given

another opportunity to sit for the examination.

Also candidates who had system failure during

the examination would retake it, once it is

proven by the board that their complaints are

genuine.

On the issue of conflicting results, Prof. Dibu

said, "Let me use this opportunity to offer

explanation on the issue of the much-publicized

two results. The process of our marking involves

transformation and other qualitative

programming.

In the process of these configurations, we had a

little challenge which we quickly corrected and

ensured that this never happened in subsequent

results. This challenge was only associated with

the candidates that sat for this examination on

Saturday, 27, and some candidates of Monday,

29 February, 2016."

He also disclosed that out of the 1,546,633

candidates that sat for the 2016 UTME, 145, 704

had issues of multiple results which have been

resolved by the board.

He however stated that results of Uromi

approved UTME Centre in Edo State, were being

withheld as a result of massive malpractice and

invasion of the centre by armed hoodlums.

He blamed the technical hitches experienced in

some of the centres on the operators of the

centers as some of them hired equipment just to

pass the accreditation process only to be found

wanting on the examination day.

He further stated that reverting to Pencil-Paper

Test as directed by the House of

Representatives will invariably amount to taking

one step forward and two steps backwards.

"Even the physically challenged are taking the

CBT examination. One of the blind candidates

scored 286, so why should others complain? He

queried.

Basic Medical Science with interest in either

Anatomy/Physiology/Biochemistry."

"At the end of seven years, students would have

House of Reps Orders JAMB To Revert To Paper-Pencil Test

The agitations from candidates may have started

yielding fruits as the House of Representatives

has asked the Federal Ministry of Education to

direct the Joint Admissions and Matriculation

Board (JAMB) to revert to pencil-paper method

in the conduct of UTME or adopt both PPT and

CBT so that candidates can opt for any one of

their choice.

This followed a motion moved by a lawmaker

from Lagos State, Mr. Oghene Emma-Egoh, on

the "conflicting" scores of candidates who took

the examination.

The law maker stressed that the technical errors

experiences during the examination has

invariably dashed the hopes of many of these

candidates in gaining admission this year.

The law maker further pointed to two cases of

conflicting results. One is that of Ibrahim

Shawulu from Kogi State, who was said to have

scored 399 out of 400, and in less than 24 hours

his score was reduced to 199."

Another is that of Foluke, the 17-year-old girl in

Ejigbo-Lagos, who scored an aggregate of 156

and when the result was checked again she had

an aggregate of 196."

Based on these and other technical flaws that

marred the conduct of the 2016 UTME, the

house of Representatives is of the opinion that

JAMB does not have what it takes to manage

the Computer Based Test.

what is your opinion to this?

JAMB 2016 Candidates With No Result Yet, Please Read This

We have many complaints from candidates who

were unable to access their results even on

JAMB Portal days after sitting for the 2016

UTME and have decided to create this thread to

address the issue.

We understand that some of you expected JAMB

to send your scores to your phone numbers and

are yet to receive such message. If you are

among this category, you are advised to visit the

official 2016 JAMB result checking portal by

clicking here www.jamb.org.ng to verify your result online.

However, if you have checked online and got a

response like "No Result Yet", just relax. There's

no need to get overly panicked.

From experience we know JAMB usually releases

some of these withheld results days after the

conclusion of the whole exams; except when

such results are linked with malpractice issues

of any kind.

So we advise candidates to keep checking the

2016 JAMB Official result checking portal .

www.jamb.org.ng/postregistrationefacility/ValidatePIN.aspx?id=9D673BEB-DF09-45D9-8D67-575FB1552225

distant time.

JAMB Appeals To Candidates/Stake Holders To Remain Calm And Understanding

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board

(JAMB) in a statement has appealed to the

public to remain calm and understanding

following the planned protest by individuals under

the aegis of education consultants.

The statement made available by the JAMB's

public relations officer, Dr Fabian Benjamin

asked the aggrieved candidates to channel their

complaints to the public complaints unit of the

board or visit JAMB offices nationwide instead of

allowing themselves to be used in pursuit of

selfish interests.

Part of the statement reads, "We are not perfect

as an organisation but we are working hard to

ensure that Nigerian education is better than it

is. We have taken the risk to do the unthinkable

so as to change the paradigm.

"We will continue to call on all Nigerians to give

us the benefit of the doubt and with their

collective support we will give them one of the

best CBTs globally."

The board added that the worst CBT is far better

than the best paper and pencil test (PPT), where

candidates pouring acid on invigilators, bolting

with questions papers and engaging in all forms

of gross examination malpractices.
